Updated 3-27-12
A presentation that conforms to the guidelines for a mental disorder and is characterized by prominent anxiety, fear, or phobic avoidance that does not meet criteria for any specific Anxiety Disorder, Adjustment Disorder with Anxiety, or Adjustment Disorder with Mixed Anxiety and Depressed Mood. There are four situations in which the diagnosis may be appropriate:
1. Atypical, mixed, or below-threshold presentation
2. Other specific syndrome not listed in DSM-5
3. Presentation of uncertain etiology
4. Insufficient information to place the presentation in another Anxiety Disorder category
